Game two - L - 1-3 (10) | Box score - summary
Game of three - L - 0-2 | Box score - summary

To say that travel weekend of the tide Baton Rouge was as bad as you would expect it would be a massive understatement.  Alabama entered the series riding a streak of seven games, and as the # 1 ranked team in the country in both major polls and left Louisiana with its first series defeat of the season, swept for the first time since 2004 (also in the hands of LSU) and placed at # 3 in the polls.  It was also the first time in school history that the tide has scored one or fewer runs in four consecutive games (Alabama headed to South Carolina last weekend 1-0).  Pitcher Tiger Brittany Mack won the SEC pitcher of the Week honors for his performance:

Mack was a key component of Alabama ranked LSU sweep.  It was 2-0 with a robust 0.32 was and garnered 25 strikeouts in 22 frameworks of action. Round Rock, Texas, native won two of three victories in the circle on the tide featured a shutout of two hits with nine Ks during the end of the series. At one point, Mack retired 14 consecutive batters and marked only the second time in the season that the crime of Alabama high octane rating does not score. During the opening of the series, Mack smashed all 14 tickets and sold his career 14 strikeouts in an astonishing 234 releases. She stranded 16 runners of basis of Alabama, 10 in scoring position.

In addition, first baseman Anissa Young won both SEC Player of the week and national honors player week after cleansing with a solo shot homer victory Friday and encoring with two run shot to make the deal on Saturday night. His appearance was LSU being unranked # 19 in the polls.  We had a hat for the Tigers and sooner the better.  Speaking of...

in Troy
W 5-2 | Box score

The tide returned with a 5-2 on Troy victory last night in front of a crowd record of 1,351 fans at Troy softball complex.

Jackie Traina struck out eight and allowed two runs on four hits in six innings to earn the victory. Traina rebounded after allowing two runs in the first to withdraw to 16 in a row before giving to Kelsi Dunne. Dunne won his second save of the season on the strength of four strikeouts in an inning.

Alabama opened the scoring in the first with three runs on the scoreboard. Whitney Larsen has things with a shot of lines to the right field that was captured, but Braud was able to score from second on the progress of SAC. Cassie Reilly-Boccia then belted his ninth home run of the season when she took a departure from two launch on the wall.

After Troy scored two runs in the bottom of the first, Alabama was able to obtain a copy, which increased its lead to 4-2. Fenton was able to take their toll on the bases as she came in a single touch and then quickly stole second and third in the third inning. She was able to score when the shot sailed in left field in his attempt to stolen third base. The tide added an insurance run in the sixth inning when Jazlyn Lunceford a single to plate Kaila Hunt's second half. Hunt started the inning by drawing a walk and moved to second on a single by Locke.

Alabama Tuscaloosa again this weekend after a two-week trip to face Mississippi State in a three game series. The two teams will open the weekend on Friday with the first release scheduled for 6: 30 p.m.  If it is in the town day to consider stopping.  Rumors swirling on Twitter that Greg McElroy (or Trent Richardson, which doesn't make much sense) is going to launch the first release, so if someone can confirm that comment away.

Alabama football players involved in theft ring

Kleph_logo_copy_tinyby kleph on April 11, 2011 7: 45 PM CDTBelmont_hotel_medium
The scene of the crime.

With all the rumors and innuendo floating on the programme of Alabama Crimson Tide football here in roll Bama Roll want to reaffirm our commitment to the pursuit of the truth and make available to you, dear readers. We do not rest until the most evil acts committed by those associated with the program are discovered and brought to the light of day.

Therefore, it is with a great heart that I must reveal horrific and sordid history of corruption and bald theft committed by players of Alabama when in Baton Rouge to play the LSU Tigers. I spent days searching through records at the University before have been able to prove this incident dispicaple really has been produced by the representatives of the team on the gridiron.

On September 20, 1952, Alabama at LSU in Tiger Stadium and managed a hard-fought 21-20 victory. In Baton Rouge, the team stayed at the Hotel Belmont and then left, the Administration found severe shortages of goods of flax. Alabama officials were notified and, then, the players were responsible for the elements. An inventory of stolen articles deposited in the archives of President John Gallalee is as follows...

28 big towels7 face towels5 blankets7 bedspreads12 pillows10 pillow slips16 leaves.

According to records of the University, Alabama Athletic Director Pete Cawthon, then returned to the elements to the hotel along with a letter of apology. The punishment of players was not revealed as "internal affair", but it is quite likely that many of gassers were carried out by the perpetrators.

Barrett Jones stick is left tackle?

Miltonf-788904_tinyby outsidethesidelines on April 14, 2011 7: 13 PM CDT in footballPhoto

While Barett Jones has been a prominent alert right over the past two seasons, his recent move to left tackle looking more like a change of position in the long term rather than an experiment in the short term. Jones was once again left tackle in practice today, and Nick Saban said in his press conference post-practice to played there in game one day. By Chase Goodbread:

Goodbread_medium

Obviously we will have to wait and see what happens at right guard, but all indications are that Anthony Steen takes the place of Jones. Saban has spoken highly of his performance this spring, and in fact improved Steen may very well be a major driving force behind this movement. If indeed this is true, putting up five, going from left to right, will be Barrett Jones, William Vlachos, Anthony Steen, Warmack and D.J. Fluker opportunity.

One way or another, it is difficult to interpret this as a positive signal to Alfred McCullough or Aaron Douglas. While possibly could be a boost later this summer, doing so will not be easy and chances are most likely not see the field in a significant capacity if Barrett Jones remains at left tackle. This is the last chance for McCullough with his season senior on the horizon, and with Douglas being a left tackle some movement of Jones would block their only legitimate way in time. And, of course, the arrival of Cyrus Kouandjio later this summer only be another obstacle on their way.

[UPDATED] Compliance with rules of Alabama Department complaints against Brent Calloway

Saban_shredding_tinyby Todd on April 9, 2011 11: 37 AM CDT

If you're like me probably took the statements of Jeffrey Lee, a writer Rivals.com for Auburn, on mobile radio from the beginning of this week about the recruitment of signed Brent Calloway of tide with a huge grain of salt.  Let us be realistic, the boy did nothing but shot to allegations of some sinister events with no evidence or even the will present his own reputation on the line, insisting that he not informed as news but "allegations are out there".  In addition to discredit him, introduced a follow-up of the interview the next day, releasing this statement:

"Due to an enormous amount of additional information AuburnSports.com has been received in the last 24 hours, not we're planning updates today as we sort through the details." It will not conduct any interviews including the previously scheduled with WNSP in Mobile. "We are firmly behind our sources of this and I would like to thank our members for their understanding and patience as this story continues to develop"

As team of speed kills so succinctly, "I can not think of but that some of this additional information came from a lawyer or twelve".  We honestly still not have bothered commenting here because, well, it seemed to talk about both board/message nonsense radio that not even dignify a response and the solo fanshot on that produces the kind of comments that deserve; mocking contempt.  Fortunately we have an athletic department that takes more seriously the things we do.  Compliance with rules of the AU staff is considering the allegations and has already carried out interviews:

Officials of the Department's compliance with rules of AU interviewed Calloway, Russellville resident Darren Woodruff, officials of the Bank in the first Bank of Metro and Calloway adopted father, Harland Lindsey Winston, known as "Peaches."

At issue are allegations tomorrow rival Auburn reporter Thursday Jeffrey Lee WSNP mobile radio station. Accusations about Lee, who were a supporter of Alabama, later identified as Woodruff, Winston paid $2,500 for Calloway commit to Alabama, as well as providing Calloway a new car. Lee also alleged that Woodruff brought Calloway of the school in the days leading up to signing day, take it on a trip to Florida.

Nothing came much that beyond the rate of refusals and declarations "are sure to get the truth with" one can expect of the family and the parties involved, but the fact that compliance staff heard the allegations and immediately began to take action should at least that make us feel very comfortable Alabama is taking this seriously and wants to make sure that there is no way in can damage the program of the school or football.  Of the eye that of contrasts quite a different program that I can think of recently ran to each roof could find to proclaim the innocence of his star player before clamming days later, TV camera and microphone and giving the allegations even more legs in public.  Much as I personally tend to ignore this whole story up something more important that the rumor mongering of sports talk radio get in it, is good to know that the Athletic Department is not and is doing things the right way.

Update: through Aaron Suttles, "exclusive TideSports.com: UA not found no violations in the recruitment of Calloway."  Of course, history is behind the wall of pay now, so we will only have to take his word....

Second Scrimmage brings progress

Miltonf-788904_tinyby outsidethesidelines on April 9, 2011 8: 02 PM CDT in footballPhoto

While the game a day can generate most of the attention, without a doubt, the second entry of the spring is the most important practice of any practice of spring. Allow space for the progress of the first scrimmage while not be moderated for the structure of fan-friendly game a day, the second annotation offers the best opportunity to show the development as a whole and for individual players to stand out from the crowd. To do so, the good news today is that as a whole Nick Saban seemed relatively satisfied with the performance of the team and the progress made.

Is still the major focus in the battle of Marshal field between A.J. McCarron and Phillip Sims, and once again the two fought a proverbial drawing, with McCarron going 19-40 for 255 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions, while Sims recorded a final line of 19-34 for 214un touchdown and one interception. Completion rates were not as high as hoped, but he spoke highly of Saban of the work of both players, and both players had a touchdown long pass each. Sims threw an interception returned for a touchdown by Will Lowery, but however general neither of them have been able to significantly distinguish themselves from others, and does not appear as holder will be appointed soon.

At the receiver, Darius Hanks led the way with six catches for 131 yards and three touchdowns, and "redshirt" freshman DeAndrew White attracted praise from Saban in the post-scrimmage press conference after grabbing five catches for 85 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, Saban was not pleased with the development of the host body after the annotation and only three receptors was shown in the statistics released by UA media relations staff (Marquis Maze is another receiver). Combine the complaints on the wide receivers with the praise of the quarterbacks, and it can be reasonably assumed that the receiver can be the scapegoat for McCarron and Sims combined to complete just 51% of his pass attempts.

Trent Richardson is still the workhorse at tailback, and it is not surprising that Saban had nothing but brilliant things to say about him after the annotation. Its raw rushing statistics were not too impressive, but he stood out as a recipient of the backfield. Meanwhile, Eddie Lacy was not as productive as it was a week ago, but for the second scrimmage in a row Demetrius Goode was not presented in stat line. Once again, Dee Hart saw several carries, a telling sign that is making a case early to play time in 2011. And speaking of today make a case for time, Jalston Fowler scored a pair of touchdowns on short yardage situations, so it can be seen a role as a short-yardage specialist in 2011.

Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the ball, Dont' Hightower and Courtney Upshaw stole the show, combining of seventeen tackles in four TFL and two sacks. Hightower led the defense with 10 tackles, and it seems as if both can stay healthy could have highly productive campaigns of 2011. In particular, General Hightower seems a different player who made a year ago. Also, speaking of linebackers, Trey DePriest continues to impress in his debut, and while the depth inside linebacker will be hard to beat, he looks ready to save time of game as a backup and special teams.

On the defensive line, marked Quinton still significant if any time playing with a performance that four tackles and a tackle for a loss. Also, Ed Stinson appears to be making the transition from Jack linebacker to defensive end with relative ease, and Darrington Sentimore seem to be on his way to win a role in the package of rabbit. In general, however, the performance of the defensive line is still a bit of a mixed proposal. Little, if anything, said Josh Chapman or Jesse Williams, and the general concern is that the performance of this unit be below what their gross talents could indicate otherwise.

In the defensive backfield, it is safe to assume that Robert Lester received the message of his demotion, as he responded with six tackles, a tackle for loss and a scrapped pass. However, apart from rebound of Lester, injuries remain a problem. Mark Barron participated today, shedding the black shirt, contactless, Dre Kirkpatrick was held due to a thumb injury but Jarrick Williams and Nick Perry remain in black t-shirts. Of as a result, while the performance of Lester and the return of Barron are encouraging, it is difficult to assess the progress of the backfield defensive with injuries keep so many players out.

Finally, with the second score, Alabama is over twelve practices this spring and there are only three sessions of practice. ' Bama return to practice on Tuesday before having a tutorial ending Friday in anticipation of the game one day a week from today.
