When you figure out what is more exciting and unpredictable than college football during the fall season, let me know.

No less than 5 unbeaten AP Top 25 teams lost their first game over the weekend, and 3 of them suffered major upsets as well. Seventh-ranked Florida, 9th-ranked Stanford, 11th-ranked Wisconsin, 18th-ranked Southern California (USC) and 23rd-ranked North Carolina State all lost.

No. 1 Alabama just took it to Florida something awful, not only beating but crushing the visiting Gators 31-6 in a humiliation Florida players will not soon forget. In the battle of arguably the two best current coaches in college football - Alabama's Nick Saban and Florida's Urban Meyer - Saban wins this time hands down.

With an Alabama defense like a swarm of thirsty hornets -- Courtney Upshaw had 4 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and C. J. Mosley returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown - the Gators committed 4 turnovers, and could not even smell the Alabama end zone.

And do you remember Florida's 15-minute hero last week? You know, freshman Trey Burton who scored 6 touchdowns against Kentucky to break Tim Tebow's record, he gained all of 5 yards on 4 carries. That's Crimson Tide defense with style points.

The Tide may not have a lot going on offensively, but the sheer running authority of Mark Ingram (who scored twice on short runs) and Trent Richardson is enough to scare the bejesus out of any team.

Alabama's victory was the second-most lopsided loss of Urban Meyer's 6 years of coaching at Florida, and it came before a red sea of 101,000+ fans at Bryant-Denny Stadium. What a night for the Crimson Tide faithful, who treat SEC games like Civil War battles against the Northern intruders.

The 4th-ranked Oregon Ducks, a team that seems to come alive after they look like a cooked goose, rose from the dead after the 7th-ranked Stanford Cardinal flew into their stadium and took a very impressive, very quick 21-3 lead in the 1st quarter of this first-time match-up of these two schools as nationally-ranked teams.

After spotting Oregon an opening field goal, the Ducks could only watch as Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck threw an 18-yard TD pass, ran for a 10-yard TD, and then passed for another 44-yard TD.

But it was a couple of Oregon sophomores who would win the day. QB Darron Thomas would go 20-for-29 (69%) for 238 yards and 2 touchdowns, and LaMichael James would gain 257 yards on 31 carries (7.65 ypc) and score 3 times on runs of 5 and 3 yards before finishing Stanford off with a 76-yard burst in the final minutes.

This game was all about offense as Oregon gained 626 yards and Stanford 518. It would appear that neither team, unlike Alabama, has a defense worth talking about.

The Ducks helped their cause immensely by forcing two crucial turnovers, and holding The Cardinal pointless in the second half while scoring 4 touchdowns. It was the 13th straight win for the Ducks at Autzen Stadium, and their 10th consecutive Pac-10 victory.

Stanford has not won a game while ranked in the Top 10 since 1970.

The 11th-ranked Wisconsin Badgers forced 3 early turnovers on the 24th-ranked Michigan State Spartans, but still went into the locker room at halftime on the short end of a 20-10 score.

Head coach Mark Dantonio, who suffered a mild heart attack following his team's last-second overtime win over Notre Dame, found himself back in the hospital for this game because of a blood clot in his leg. He had intended to be back in the coaching box.

Enter offensive coordinator Don Treadwell, who led the Spartans 45-7 win over AA Northern Colorado last week. On Michigan State's crucial drive late in the game, Treadwell called for a successful attempt on a 4th-and-1 situation that eventually led to the 34-24 upset win.

The Spartans would convert three 3rd-downs on the drive before needing all 4 downs to score near the goal line on a 1-yard pass from Kirk Cousins to B. J. Cunningham to seal the victory.

In the most surprising upset of the week, the unranked Washington Huskies (1-2) traveled to Los Angeles and upset the 18th-ranked USC Trojans 32-31 for the second time in two years on a pressure-packed, last-play, 32-field goal by wonder kicker Erik Folk.

Last year at Husky Stadium, Erik Folk nailed a 22-yard field goal with 3 seconds left to upset then 3rd-ranked Southern Cal in what became a signature victory for first-year coach Steve Sarkisian and his Huskies.

"Sark" (Sarkisian's nickanme) and USC coach Lane Kiffin both ran the Southern Cal offense as coordinators for Pete Carroll before Carroll left to become coach of the NFL Seattle Seahawks this year.

It was de javu all over again Saturday as Folk was forced to wait through three timeouts before nailing his winning kick with, once again, 3 seconds showing on the clock.

In one of Sarkisian's smarter moves since becoming the Washington Husky coach, he stopped trying to force Jake Locker into becoming an NFL pocket quarterback. He let the fifth-year senior be himself by making the game plan simple and using Locker's legs as well as his arm to humble USC once again.

After looking like anything but a Heisman candidate in Washington's brutal 56-21 loss to Nebraska two weeks ago, Locker reminded everyone of why he was considered THE top NFL draft prospect and Heisman Trophy candidate.

He played like a seasoned warrior against USC, going 24-for-40 passing (60%) for 310 yards and a 44-yard TD pass to Devin Aguilar, and rushing for another 110 yards on 12 carries (9.17 ypc).

Locker nearly scored another TD on a long run in the 2nd quarter, but USC's Shareece Wright came from behind to punch the ball loose and through the end zone for a touchback.

In the 4th quarter, Locker took a knee to the back on his head while on the ground near the goal line and got his breath knocked out on the same play. Backup Keith Price immediately came in and tossed a 1-yard touchdown pass to Chris Izbicki to put the Huskies ahead, 29-28.

Locker returned to engineer the long drive that set up Erik Folk's dramatic last-play winning kick. It was the Huskies first win at the LA Coliseum since 1996. The Trojans had won 47 of 48 games on their home field against Washington until losing 3 of the last 5 games.

The 5th unbeaten team to fall was the 23rd-ranked North Carolina State Wolfpack, which could not stop the unranked Virginia Tech Hoakies on this day. The Hoakies had a lofty pre-season ranking that evaporated overnight with season-opening losses to 3rd-ranked Boise State and AA James Madison.

A different team met NC State over the weekend. After being down 17-7 at the half and then being down 17 points, the Hoakies found themselves in the 2nd half by scoring on 5 of their 7 possessions to launch one of the most impressive comebacks in school history.

In the end, NC State could not keep up, losing 41-30. Virginia Tech's Tyrod Taylor passed for 3 touchdowns and rushed for another 121 yards, running back Darren Evans added 160 yards on 15 carries (10.67 ypc), and Jayron Holsey intercepted Wolfpack QB Russell Wilson 3 times.

Frank Beamer's Hoakies have now beaten East Carolina and shut out Boston College to bring their record back to 3-2.

The upset losses hurt Wisconsin, USC and NC State. The Badgers dropped from 11th to 20th in the AP Top 25 Poll. The Trojans and the Wolfpack went flying right out of the Top 25 along with USC and Penn State, and were replaced in the last 4 slots by Oklahoma State, Florida State, Missouri and Air Force.

Several ranked teams scored big wins that will not hurt them a bit. They included:

No. 3 Boise State (4-0) shut out hapless, inept New Mexico State 59-zip. No. 5 TCU (5-0) shut out weak Colorado State 27-zip. No. 10 Auburn (5-0) breezed past a weak Louisiana-Monroe team, 52-3. No. 17 Iowa beat No. 22 Penn State 24-3. And No. 25 Nevada (5-0) took care of UNLV 44-26.

No. 6 Nebraska, No. 13 Utah, No. 14 Arizona, No. 15 Arkansas, and No. 19 South Carolina were all idle.

The 4 teams that played their way into the AP Top 25 Poll did so by winning. The new 22nd-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys (4-0) nipped Texas A&M 38-35. The 23rd-ranked Florida State Seminoles beat Virginia in an away game, 34-14. The 24th-ranked Missouri Tigers were idle. And the 25th-ranked Air Force Falcons turned back Navy 14-6.

After a topsy-turvy 2007 college football season full of surprises, the 2008 college football season opened like business as usual. No less than 20 teams among the AP's Top 25 Preseason Poll won their opener.

It would be hard to call 2 of the 5 losing teams as an upset-No. 9 Clemson lost at home to No. 24 Alabama 34-10, and No. 20 Illinois lost to No. 6 Missouri 52-42 on the road. This was a preseason poll and all 4 teams were ranked.

The only three real upsets were No. 17 Virginia Tech's loss to host East Carolina, 27-22, since East Carolina was unranked, No. 25 Pittsburgh losing its opener at home to unranked Bowling Green 27-17, and No. 18 Tennessee's overtime loss to host UCLA 27-24.

The 20 ranked winning teams racked up some pretty impressive opening victories:

No. 1 Georgia hosted and defeated 1-AA Georgia Southern 45-21. Georgia hosts Central Michigan next, another easy opponent.

No. 2 Ohio State hosted and shut out 1-AA Youngstown State 43-0. Ohio State hosts in-state rival Ohio next.

No. 3 Southern California (USC) traveled to Virginia and won easily on the road 52-7. USC takes a week off and then hosts Ohio State on Sept. 13, giving them lots of time to prepare for the Buckeyes.

No. 4 Oklahoma hosted and ripped apart 1-AA Chattanooga 57-2. Oklahoma hosts Cincinnati next, another lightweight.

No. 5 Florida hosted Hawaii and gave the Warriors a taste of top competition, 56-10. Florida hosts in-state rival Miami next.

No. 6 Missouri hosted and defeated No. 20 Illinois 52-42. Both of these teams should be good again this year, but it does not appear than either of them has a defense against a good offense. Missouri hosts in-state rival Southeast Missouri State next while Illinois hosts in-state rival Eastern Illinois. Both should win easily.

No. 7 Louisiana State (LSU) saw 1-AA Appalachian State coming to Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge and promptly sent them packing with a 41-13 loss. LSU hosts Troy next. Troy should get run over.

No. 8 West Virginia hosted and defeated 1-AA Villanova 48-21. West Virginia travels to East Carolina next and the Mountaineers from the Big East Conference had better be on their game. The East Carolina Pirates from Conference USA are on a big time roll. Coach Skip Holtz led East Carolina past Boise State last year in the Hawaii Bowl, giving him two huge wins in a row.

No. 10 Auburn hosted and shut out Louisiana-Monroe 34-zip. Auburn hosts Southern Mississippi next.

No. 11 Texas hosted and smashed Florida Atlantic 52-10. Texas travels to in-state rival Texas-El Paso (UTEP) next, another easy opponent for the Longhorns.

No. 12 Texas Tech's pass-happy offense blew by 1-AA visitor Eastern Washington 49-24 and will travel to Nevada next.

No. 13 Wisconsin feasted on Akron 38-17 in the Badgers' home opener, and host Marshall next. Many pundits are looking at Wisconsin as a powerhouse in the Big Ten this year. Akron might agree.

No. 14 Kansas treated visiting Florida International like road kill in a 40-10 victory. The Jayhawks host weak Louisiana Tech next.

No. 15 Arizona State hosted and turned back 1-AA in-state rival Northern Arizona 30-13. Next up for the Sun Devils is visiting Stanford, which won a big game in its home opener against Oregon State 36-28.

No. 16 Brigham Young (BYU) hosted and stormed past 1-AA Northern Iowa 41-17 and now travels to Washington to face a young, inexperienced Husky team.

No. 17 Virginia Tech lost to host East Carolina 27-22 and should easily rebound when the Hokies host 1-AA Furman next. Trust me when I say it will not be a good day to be Furman. Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer, the master of special teams play, got beat when East Carolina's T. J. Lee scooped up his own blocked punt and ran it in for a 27-yard touchdown with 1:52 left to seal the Pirates' victory. Beamer and his band of Virginia Tech players will take it out on Furman. Virginia Tech should drop in the first regular-season AP Poll this week, especially since East Carolina was an unranked team.

No. 18 Tennessee traveled to UCLA and lost a heartbreaker to UCLA 27-24. The Volunteers led 14-7 at the half, led 14-10 after the 3rd quarter, watched UCLA take a 24-21 lead with 27 seconds left in the 4th quarter, managed to tie the game at 24, and then lost in overtime when UCLA's kicker made a 42-yard field goal and Tennessee's kicker missed a 34-yarder. The win represented the first game and first win for new coach Rick Neuheisel's UCLA coaching debut at his alma mater.

No. 19 South Florida hosted and stomped Tennessee-Martin 56-7. Next up for South Florida will be a trip to in-state rival Central Florida. South Florida surprised a lot of teams last year with a 9-4 record, including a 56-21 loss to Oregon in the Brut Sun Bowl.

No. 20 Illinois traveled to No. 6 Missouri and lost 52-42 in a high-scoring offensive shootout.

No. 21 Oregon hosted and put a licking on Washington 44-10. The Huskies, who only trailed 14-10 at the half, proved no match for Oregon's spread offense and speed. Oregon hosts Utah State next while Washington has its home opener against BYU. Coach Ty Willingham and his Washington players will be lucky to leave Husky Stadium with their shirts on after BYU gets done with them.

No. 22 Penn State hosted and stomped a mud hole in 1-AA Coastal Carolina 66-10. Penn State will host a very angry Oregon State team next. The Nittany Lions had better be ready because the Beavers play tough, hard-nosed football to say it kindly.

No. 23 Wake Forest traveled to Baylor and got the job done, 41-13.

No. 24 Alabama traveled to No. 9 Clemson and the Crimson Tide rolled out with an impressive 34-10 victory. We predicted that Clemson could be in trouble with a capital T, and in fact they were. Alabama led 23-3 at the half and outscored Clemson 11-7 in the second half. Alabama entertains Tulane next in the Crimson Tide's home opener. The Bryant-Denny Stadium will be rockin', and unless the Earth caves in, Alabama will be 2-0.

No. 25 Pittsburgh had its season opener at home against Bowling Green and came up short, losing to the Falcons from the Mid-American Conference, 27-17. Is Pittsburgh that bad? Yes. Bowling Green is a Mid-American Conference team and Pittsburgh plays in the Big East Conference. If Pittsburgh coach Dave Wannstedt keeps this up, he will never get any respect. Are you aware that Bowling Green won the Mid-American East title last year, went 8-4 overall and played in the GMAC Bowl? Yes, the Falcons lost to Tulsa 63-7 in their bowl game, but at least they went.

Pittsburgh last year was 5-7 overall and spent the season sucking pond water. A lot of fans are in prayer in Pittsburgh, hoping the Panthers will get better. Will someone please inform rabid Panther Nation fans that it is OK to pray like it depends on God, but the Panther players need to act like it depends on them. Pittsburgh should fall right out of the first regular-season AP Poll and take its rightful place in obscurity.

Seven of the 8 non-ranked teams that needed to win their opener did. Only Michigan, which lost its opener at home last year to 1-AA Appalachian State 34-32, managed to lose again at home in the Big House to Utah, 25-23. The loss represented the first game and first loss for new coach Rich Rodriguez. Had Michigan not come up with 13 points in the last quarter, the Wolverines would have lost 25-10. Do you think they sell Utah jerseys in Ann Arbor? In fairness, Michigan did end up at 8-4 last year and did beat Florida 41-35 in the Capital One Bowl.

The 7 non-ranked teams that won included:

Arizona over Idaho 70-0 (49-zip at the half), Arkansas over 1-AA Western Illinois 28-24 (don't laugh, at least the Razorbacks won), Boise State over 1-AA Idaho State 49-7, Boston College over Kent State 21-0, Connecticut over 1-AA Hofstra 35-3, Kansas State over North Texas 45-6, and Nebraska over Western Michigan 47-24 (the Cornhuskers still have a lot of work to do).

Add-on winners include Colorado at home over in-state rival Colorado State 38-17 (this game is in the same category as the Oregon-Oregon State civil war shootout every year), and Wyoming at home over Ohio 21-20 (many Wyoming backers have made big bucks betting on Wyoming at home over the years).

And my pick for game of the week? The mighty Buffalo Bulls (hear my mighty roar) scored in every quarter to paste visiting Texas-El Paso (UTEP) 42-17. Keep an eye on Buffalo. The Bulls, with coach Turner Gill, have decided to stop being the NCAA's doormat and start beating people because they can.

That's the story on this opening week wrap-up. Other teams may have played and won, but until they stop standing around and looking important rather than actually beating someone, they get no coverage here.

Football school - evaluation of three years of the first coaches - Saban, Erickson and Dantonio - part 3

Unlike recruitment Dennis Erickson in the State of Arizona and Mark Dantonio in the State of Michigan, the hiring of Nick Saban as new head coach of Alabama became a national event media.

It was not only unbelievable Saban as coach record that became his signature in big business, it was more that his 8-year contract of $ 32 million made him the highest paid football college coach ever.

Saban paid their contributions in the trenches as a defensive Assistant and/or defensive at Kent State University, Syracuse, West Virginia, Ohio State, Marina and Michigan State University and Houston in the coach, pros.Como tankers rows Coordinator Saban:

1) Took the Toledo Rockets from a 6-5-9-2 and the co-Mid-American Conference championship trademark registration of exit after a year to become the 4 years under Bill Belichick NFL Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator.

Browns became allow that points in the NFL (462) prior to the arrival of Saban to allow that the fewest points in the League (204) in 2004, minor sixth points surrendered in the history of the NFL in the momento.En 4 years leading Cleveland Browns never allowed that an average of 20 points for any opponent.

(2) The Browns left to return to the State of Michigan as his coach head. When he arrived, the Spartans had a bowl game in the last 5 years. Saban took the Spartans in 4 bowl games in 5 years, becoming the first Spartan coach to lead his team to bowl appearances consecutive in his first three seasons.

In 1999, his last year, Michigan State beat Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio and Penn State in the same year for the first time since 1965 and recorded 6 home wins for the first time since 1912 season. The Spartans were VII at national level as a team, fifth nationally in Rushing defense and 11 in Total Defense.

(3) Served another 5-year stay in Louisiana (LSU), producing a record of 48-16 (.750 winning percentage in the SEC) while winning a national championship in 2003, two sec titles and three Championships Division West SEC.Sus 48 WINS in 5 years were the third most between 1A Division currently head coaches.

It was selected as the 2003 the year by the Associated Press national coach and won both Paul "bear" Bryant coach of national year and Eddie Robinson coach of the year by the Football Writers Association of America.

Saban had promoted successful LSU academic as well as the success of football, producing 84 Academic All-SEC honorees in five seasons, including 25 members of his national championship in 2003, which led to the national defence of punctuation and total defence team.Twenty-eight of his players were selected draft NFL.Trece his players his 2003 national championship team would play in the NFL.

Saban 2001 team spent 10-3, won first absolute SEC program title since 1986 and his first victory in a new year's day Bowl game since 1968.Y, Yes, he probably could have been elected Governor of Louisiana.

(4) Spent two years as head coach of the Miami Dolphins in the NFL.Miami was 4-12, when took charge and 9-7 season.

(5) Passed to the task of Alabama after bolting from the Miami Dolphins 2 years in a 5 year contract. No one has questioned its success in the field, but many have questioned his loyalty and training methods.Saban isn't a great admirer of mediocrity, and he does not tolerate the effort is false.exige and gets much of its players.

He is comfortable under Hollywood klieg lights, and some think it is too full of himself.Given a vote at the University of Alabama, I guess the Crimson Tide are happy that is on your side of the field.

Between the three coaches first year which is evaluated in this article-Dennis Erickson of the State of Arizona, Dantonio Mark of the State of Michigan, and Alabama-Saban's Nick Saban has been less successful.

Alabama offensive was average in score attack, offensive total, offensive and offensive Rushing pace and poor offense pase.Defensa Saban, your strong point, efficiency was good score (29 nationally), total defence defence and pass (both 28 nationally) and its average Rushing defense and defense passing efficiency defence.

In general, Alabama scored 32 points as possible in my system of classification, Michigan State annotated 33 of 50 and the State of Arizona 35 50 50.

Alabama was 6-2 this year at its zenith of hitting a spiral downward in their last four games, losing by a touchdown to LSU 41-34, getting beat on the highway in the State of Mississippi (bad) 17-12, losing at home by a touchdown to Louisiana-Monroe 21-14 (terrible), and then release their final game to Auburn by a touchdown on the road from 17-10 (terrible) .Amigo, simply cannot lose Auburn Alabama coach.

Nick Saban and its Crimson Tide will at least have a shot at some redemption when facing Colorado (6-6) in Independence Bowl diciembre.Un 30 more accurate name for this bull-up party might be Bowl Mediocre.A weigh freshman Saban, record the smart money will continue in Alabama, at least for this game.

Editor's Note: this is the last of a 3-Part series.

Summary of college football week the undefeated 6-3 teams Fall and South Carolina annoying Alabama, 35-21

Translate Request has too much data

Three unbeaten teams bit the dust this week, and none was bigger than the No. 1-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide who showed that South Carolina is not only a very good team, but is tough to beat at home.

The Gamecocks spotted 'Bama a field goal and then South Carolina's Stephen Garcia threw 3 touchdown passes to put the Gamecocks up, 21-3. Garcia would go on to have the best day of his collegiate career, completing 17-of-20 passes (85%) for 201 yards.

When the Tide tried to play themselves back into the game, South Carolina's Marcus Lattimore took over, scoring once on a 9-yard TD pass, and rushing for 2 short-yardage touchdowns while piling up 93 yards on the ground on 23 carriers (4.04).

About all Alabama had to take home with its hurt pride and a 35-21 loss was the fact that its defense had held another runner to less than 100 yards gained for the umpteenth game.

The defense was really all South Carolina's as the Gamecocks sacked Alabama's Greg McElroy 7 times. Their offense shredded the country's top-rated scoring defense, putting the most points on the board since a 41-34 'Bama lost to LSU in 2007.

The win lifted South Carolina from 19th place to 10th in the AP Top 25 Poll.

South Carolina's victory was its first-ever against a No. 1-ranked team. The Gamecocks win snapped defending national champion Alabama's 19-game win streak, and threw the national championship race wide open.

There are now only 13 BCS teams left with an undefeated record. Ohio State, Oregon, TCU, Auburn, LSU, Michigan State and Nevada are all 6-0. Boise State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Utah, Oklahoma State and Missouri are all 5-0. There are 120 Division 1-A teams.

The second biggest upset of the week was due in large part to sophomore quarterback Ryan Katz of Oregon State. Katz declared himself as a quality Pac-10 QB by completing 30-of-42 passes (71%) for 393 yards and 2 touchdowns, and rushing for another score as the Beavers traveled to 9th-ranked Arizona and took down the unbeaten Wildcats, 29-27.

It was a huge win for Oregon State as the Arizona defense had been ranked 2nd nationally, giving up only 230 yards per game.

The Wildcats' Nick Foles, one of the Pac-10's best, completed 35 of 46 (76%) for 440 yards and 3 touchdowns, but it was not enough. Worse yet, Arizona was coming off a bye week and had double the time to prepare for Oregon State's visit. The Beaver victory was their 5th straight against Arizona on its home field.

The third biggest upset was the 17th-ranked Michigan State Spartans, a 4.5-point underdog, upending and then thrashing the 18th-ranked Michigan Wolverines at the Big House in Ann Arbor, so-called because it is the largest football stadium in the country, holding 113,000+ fans.

Michigan State jumped out to a 17-10 halftime lead and then won the 2nd half 17-7, and the game, 34-17. And it was not close at the end.

Michigan's wunderkind, superstar quarterback Denard Robinson, who came into the game on everyone's Heisman list and leading the nation in rushing with an average 181 yards a game for his first 5 games, looked a lot more human when the game was over.

Robinson was held to 86 yards on 21 carries (a 4.1 average per carry) and was intercepted 3 times. This was primarily because Michigan State was the first team Robinson played against this year that actually had a defense.

Meanwhile, Spartan running back Edwin Baker rushed for 147 yards on 22 carries (6.68 ypc) and scored on a 61-yard touchdown dash. I say dash because Michigan State's offensive line opened up a hole that a Mac truck could have driven through.

Michigan State's outstanding freshman, Le'Veon Bell, picked up another 78 yards on 7 carries (11.14 ypc), and scored on a 41-yard run that the offensive line opened up like a crater. Not to be outdone, Michigan State's 3rd outstanding runner, Larry Caper, picked up another 34 yards and scored on an 8-yard run.

Michigan, which had the 2nd-best total offense in the nation at 565 yards per game, was held to 377 yards while Michigan State rolled up 536 yards, 249 rushing and 287 passing. Spartan QB Kirk Cousins went 18-for-25 (72%) for 284 yards and a 42-yard TD strike to Mark Dell.

The Wolverines got a good butt-kicking, the Spartans won their 3rd straight over Michigan, and by doing so Michigan State became the dominate team in the State of Michigan.

The fourth biggest upset saw 12th-ranked LSU travel to 14th-ranked Florida and slide past the Gators, 33-29, in a game Florida will not soon forget. The Gators saw their unbeaten record fall by losing 31-6 last week at Alabama, and hosting LSU was the Gators 3rd ranked opponent in 3 weeks, and proved too much.

The Louisiana gambler, coach Les Miles, rolled the dice again against Florida by keeping the winning drive alive with a successful fake field goal that allowed Jarrett Lee to throw a 3-yard pass to Terrence Toliver for the victory with 6 seconds remaining.

Worse yet, LSU tried to run the same play to the same player, Toliver, on their previous last-second play. It was successfully defensed the first time, but not the second time as Toliver, with a height advantage, made it count.

Last week Miles was criticized for poor clock management in the final moments as Tennessee almost upset the Tigers, but LSU won anyway, 16-14. Miles just smiles, and wins again as opposing coaches pull out their hair in frustration.

The fake field goal by LSU you may never see again. With 35 seconds left and clock ticking, the holder Derek Helton throws a no-look pitch over his head that bounces off the turf and into the hands of place-kicker Josh Jasper who scampers for the first down to keep the winning drive alive. They couldn't pull that stunt off again in the circus.

Nonetheless, LSU is 6-0, fat, sassy, and really lucky. This is college football, folks, expect the unexpected and unanticipated EVERY week - that's why it is so much more exciting and topsy-turvy than pro football.

The fifth upset saw the 23rd-ranked Florida State Siminoles fly into Miami and upend the 13th-ranked Hurricanes, 45-17. The Hurricanes saw a lot of Jermaine Thomas' taillights as he scored a career-high 3 touchdowns (1 passing and 2 running) during the first 21 minutes.

Miami players then spent the rest of their time chasing Siminole Chris Thomspon's rear end as he rushed for 158 yards and logged in the longest run Miami has allowed in its illustrious history - a 90-yard scoring jaunt. It was an easy win for Florida State.

The win lifted Florida State from 23rd place to 16th in the AP Top 25 Poll.

Six other Top 25 teams had impressive victories Saturday.

They included the 5th-ranked Texas Christian University Horned Frogs who ran their record to 6-0 with a 45-zip shut out of Wyoming, and the 24th-ranked Missouri Tigers who stayed unbeaten with their 5th victory, a 26-zip shut out of Colorado at home.

Seventh-ranked Nebraska ran its record to 5-0 as the Cornhuskers traveled to Kansas State and handed the Wildcats their first loss, 48-13. Some thought K-State should have been ranked with a 4-0 mark. Now we see why they were not.

The 2nd-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes (6-0) hosted Indiana and reminded the Hoosiers why Ohio State is unbeaten and the premier team in the Big 10, thumping them 38-10, while showing a lot more offensive weapons.

Tenth-ranked Utah went on the road and won convincingly while staying unbeaten in notching its 5th straight victory over Iowa State, 68-27 -- a 41-point margin. The 4th-ranked Boise State Broncos remained unbeaten while hosting Toledo and beating the Rockets, 57-14 -- a 43-point margin.

Eight other Top 25 teams won, but were hardly dominate in doing so. Two of them were lucky to get out of town alive.

The 8th-ranked Auburn Tigers scored 31 points in the first half against Kentucky, and then needed a last-second field goal to nip the Wildcats, 37-34. Eleventh-ranked Arkansas was held scoreless by Texas A&M in the last quarter and slipped out of town with a 24-17 victory.

The 16th-ranked Stanford Cardinal hosted Southern California and darn near lost. Each team scored a touchdown in each of the first 3 quarters, and then USC added a second touchdown in the last quarter with barely a minute to play and took a 35-34 lead.

This happened because Stanford's kicker missed the extra point try after the Cardinal matched USC with its second score in the last quarter. The kicker, Nate Whitaker, redeemed himself with a 30-yard field goal with 4 seconds to play to give Stanford the win, 37-35.

Elsewhere, the 21st-ranked Nevada Wolf Pack had a hardly impressive 35-13 win over an extremely weak San Jose State excuse for a team. Third-ranked Oregon was not much better as the Ducks downed a rebuilding program at Washington State, 43-23.

The 22nd-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys apparently spent more time in the saddle than on the ground as they could only beat an absolutely terrible Louisiana Lafayette team, 54-28. Okie-State gave up 4 touchdowns to a team ranked 172nd out of 120 Division I-A teams. Please don't ask me if they have a defense.

Oklahoma State is now 5-0; little wonder with opponents like Louisiana Lafayette. The Cowboys strength of schedule is currently 118th among 120 teams. In other words, they have played jack and diddly so far. All of this nonsense might stop when they host Nebraska in two weeks.

The 20th-ranked Wisconsin Badgers hosted Minnesota and beat the Golden Gophers (whatever a Golden Gopher is), 41-23. The Badgers were at home and should have won bigger, badder and better. And 25th-ranked Air Force took down a very weak, visiting Colorado State team, 49-27.

I am frankly surprised at how many top-ranked teams this year give up so many points while winning. Very few teams play defense and it is beginning to seem like they all give up a lot of points, except TCU in its last two games, and they have played 5 weak sisters in going 6-0.

College football - 2010 predictions LSU Tigers

LSU Tiger fans are growing impatient with head coach Les Miles, 3 retired years is a national championship. Which then and this is now, not help LSU coach Nick Saban that has already won a title of College football in Alabama in just his second season at school. LSU finished 9-4 in 2009 and ended the season with a Bowl loss to Penn State. In 2009, the team finished second behind Alabama in the West of the SEC, Tigers were 5-8 against the spread, passing the total 5 times and less than 8 times. The 2009 team qualified 111 at the national level in total offense, occupied the 76 in scoring with 24.6 per game, only yards with 181.8 yards per game and 90 ° at the national level in an average of 122.9 rushing yards per game. As no statistics will win a Conference as the SEC, which is totally unacceptable. Defence was a little better, giving more than 327 yards per game, defence equipment peak was a little suspect to renounce 133 yards per game ranked 46 football Division 1. Best LSU had achieved dramatically improve on both sides of the ball if they want to compete with Alabama and Florida. Schedule 2010 Tiger has games against Alabama and Tennessee in the SEC and the Conference not against West Virginia home games and North Carolina in Atlanta September 4 opening football 2010 University collects the season.

The Tigers 2010 should replace leading broker Charles Scott on the offensive side, Russell Shepard could be a do all sorts of selection in the offensive player. Stevan Ridley and Michael Ford each ran for 100 yards in the spring game.Jordan Jefferson quarterback who fought with coherence last year but the LSU as a personal trainer thinks that he will be much better in 2010.Jefferson will have many of the weapons to throw too in Terrance Tolliver who had almost 750 yards receiving and Rueben Randle starts opposite Mingus.

The defence made some great progress last year under the freshman defensive coordinator John Chavis. Chavis will have Hello work cut out for him, the defence returns only 4 starters. Defence will be led by the pre season than any American candidate Patrick Peterson in the corner and the other is Brandon Taylor, high school will be very good.In spite of the lack of experience starting LSU is going to be hard from the beginning. The school always produces great defensive lineman, Drake Nevis will lead the línea.Los linebackers will be suspect at the beginning of the season, but come into its own as the pronosticador va.Este sports season has LSU finishing behind of Alabama and Arkansas in the SEC West

2009 College football preview

After an utterly unbelievable 2008 season, which was in by no manner short on thrills, the 2009 college football season is nearly upon us. Training camps are into high gear, and the season is roughly a month away. Recently the Preseason Coach's Polls were released, with the top of the rankings looking very familiar to their predecessor. Defending National Champion Florida is sitting at number one, with Texas and Oklahoma sitting squarely behind at two and three, with USC and Alabama filling out the remainder of the Top-10. All five of these teams are loaded, and it is a very real possibility that one of these five teams will be the BCS National Champion of 2009. So with that said, let's take a look at each of the Top-25 teams, and see what 2009 may have in store for them.

1.) Florida Gators

After winning their second BCS Championship in the last three years, Urban Meyer, Tim Tebow, and the Florida Gators look to add another one to the trophy case. Doing so will arguably make them team of the decade, which most would hardly argue with. Florida has 20 returning starters, and one of the finest recruiting classes in the country, which make for another run for a title very, very possible. Their schedule isn't near ly as difficult as it was the previous year, with the only real challenge coming when they travel to Death Valley to meet LSU. Seriously though, we could be witnessing history when it's all said and done. Tebow could win his second Heisman, and the Gators could win their third BCS Championship in four years. So, 2009 could very well feel like its predecessor, because the Gators are once again the team to watch, and the team that probably won't get beat.

2.) Texas Longhorns

After defeating Oklahoma last year, the Texas Longhorns were denied a spot in the National Championship Game. As a consolation prize, they had to settle for besting Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl, which isn't bad either. However, that is the past, and Mack Brown and Colt McCoy are shooting for the moon, as they look to be playing in Pasadena come January. McCoy was outstanding last year, and is now protected by a bigger, more experienced line, which should open holes for a better running game. At times last year, McCoy had to run the ball too often, but that shouldn't be the case this year. Defensively, there will be changeover as the Longhorns lose a number of defensive linemen from a unit that accumulated a nation-best 47 sacks. With all that said though it's going to come down to the game in Dallas where their rivalry with Oklahoma will reconvene. The winner of that game will almost guaranteed a spot in the BCS Championship Game.

3.) Oklahoma Sooners

Despite coming up short in the BCS Championship Game, the Oklahoma Sooners are poised to make another run at that crown. Bob Stoops has reigning-Heisman winner Sam Bradford behind center once again, and deep backfield, the best tight end in the country, and a number of blazers at the receiver positions. The defense is back intact too, with better depth, and more experience from a unit that was the team's weakness a season ago. They allowed too many big plays in 2008, and need to be better in 2009 if they wish to get to Pasadena this January. The most important thing for stoops to attend to is the offensive line, which returns just one starter from last years group, which was scary-good. Bradford was rarely touched last year, but he might have to get his jersey dirty this season.

4.) USC Trojans

It was business as usual for Pete Carroll and the Trojans in 2008, as they won their fourth consecutive Rose Bowl, and finished in the AP Top-4 for the seventh straight season. This was tempered a bit by their loss at Oregon State, which ultimately kept them from competing for a BCS Championship. The unexpected loss of quarterback Mark Sanchez would seem like an issue, but for a program that is as loaded like USC, there are a number of very capable passers just waiting to step up. They have a very experienced, deep offensive line, and the best skill position players in the nation, so whoever is behind center should fair very well. The defense, which was historically great last season, lost a number of playmakers, particularly the linebackers, but has more than enough talent in waiting to plug the holes. The Trojans will challenge for another National Championship, but they will probably end up in their fifth consecutive Rose Bowl, which really isn't all that bad.

5.) Alabama Crimson Tide

In just his second season as the headman in Tuscaloosa, Nick Saban kept the Crimson Tide atop the BCS standings for the majority of the season. However their last two games weren't that savory. Alabama fell to eventual National Champion Florida in the SEC Championship Game, and was then embarrassed by Utah in the Sugar Bowl. What Saban doesn't have this year is an experienced quarterback, but he's got just about everything else covered. The defense will be a monster, and the skill positions, and special teams are dynamic. It shouldn't be overlooked that the Tide lost three starters on the offensive line, which was arguably the best in the nation last year. Alabama doesn't face Florida in the regular season, and another Top-10 finish is very likely for the highest-paid coach in college football.

6.) Ohio State Buckeyes

Last year was a bit of a transition for the Buckeyes, who handed the reigns over to super-frosh Terrelle Pryor early in the season. Pryor had his ups and downs, but the dual-threat quarterback is the firm starter in 2009, and its a matter of time before we start to see the consistency he lacked last season. When this happens, look out. What could hold him back is inexperience at the skill positions. Both leading receivers are gone, and punishing back Beanie Wells is too. The offensive line needs tinkering with as well, especially at left tackle. Think replacing all of that is bad, then take a look at the defense, which won't be as polished or as deep as it was last season. Let's not forget about the looming matchup with USC in the Horseshoe, for the Trojans annihilated the Buckeye's a season ago. There are also road games at Penn State and Michigan and this could be a challenging season for Ohio State. But you know what? I got a feeling that Jim Tressel and Pryor are up to the task.

7.) Virginia Tech Hokies

Could it be that Virginia Tech once again looks to be the class of the ACC? Even after a supposed rebuilding season, the Hokies were able to muster another appearance in the Orange Bowl, where they thumped Big East Champion Cincinnati. Sophomore Tyrod Tyler is the unquestioned starter at quarterback, while Frank Beamer will benefit form having 17 starters return from last year's unit. Taylor's ability to break down a defense with his feet makes us reminisce to the day's of another Hokies passer, while a deep staple of running backs should give Beamer the luxury of being able to run the ball on just about anyone. The offensive line is arguably the ACC's best as well. The only real issue for Virginia Tech is the inexperience of the defense. With that said though, they are still oozing with talent. We'll see just how good these Hokies are early because they'll open their season against Alabama in Atlanta, which is no easy task.

8.) Penn State Nittany Lions

2008 nearly became Joe Paterno's ride into the sunset, as the Nittany Lions' flirted with the number one ranking in the country all the way into late November, before they fell on the road at Iowa. Despite that shortcoming they managed to win their second Big Ten Championship in the last four years. Leadership is something that Penn State has returning this year, which is a very good thing. Dynamic quarterback Daryll Clark is back for one more season, while linebacker Sean Lee leads an always-imposing defense. The problem for Paterno could lie with the departure of three big time receivers, as well as two of his top offensive lineman. That considered, it would be unrealistic for the Lions to put up the staggering amount of points that they did a season ago. They do however have a very easy non-conference schedule, and get Ohio State at home this season as well. Look for Penn State to challenge for another Big Ten crown, with another ten-win season in the cards.

9.) LSU Tigers

Despite a season that saw them get thumped by both Georgia and Florida in ridiculous fashion, the LSU Tigers closed out their title defense with a very impressive demolition of Georgia Tech in their bowl game. From that game came the emergence of sophomore quarterback Jordan Jefferson, who will be expected to take the Tigers back to the top of the BCS ladder. His improvement could give LSU what they need to vault past Alabama in the SEC West. Les miles has the conference's best group of running backs and receivers at his disposal so expect this unit to fly. The only things that could slow the Tigers down for an eventual meeting with the gators in Atlanta is the fact that they lack experience on the defensive front, and that their chief competition in the conference, Alabama and Mississippi, don't have to play Florida.

10.) Mississippi Rebels

Before Houston Nutt took the Job in Mississippi, the Rebels were winless in the SEC. In his first season, the reverend drove his team to five SEC wins, one of which came against Florida in the Swamp. They then finished up a six-game winning streak with a beat down of Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl. So what will Nutt do for an encore? During that winning streak, quarterback Jevan Snead threw 16 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions. Big things are expected out of the young passer, for he is probably the best pro prospect in the nation. Snead is surrounded by a fine collection of receivers and backs, one of which is Dexter McCluster. There are also 16 returning starters for the Rebels, which might just be enough to put them in their first-ever SEC Championship Game. But then again, that just might be a year away.

11.) Oklahoma State Cowboys

Look anywhere throughout this Top-25 Poll, and you'll be hard pressed to find another team that has the firepower on offense that the Oklahoma State Cowboys have. Between quarterback Zac Robinson, running back Kendall Hunter, and wide receiver Dez Bryant, the Cowboys have arguably the best player at their respective position in the country. The problem though for Oklahoma State is that they are perennially one of the biggest risk/reward teams in the country. Yes they put up a lot of points and a massive amount of yards, but they don't play much defense, which is the primary reason they haven't overtaken Texas or Oklahoma in the Big 12 South. For example they scored 41 points against the Sooners, and still lost by three touchdowns. In fact, the Cowboys haven't finished better than 74th in the nation in total defense since 2001. With that said, don't expect them to overtake the giants of the conference until they find a way to stop their opposition.

12.) California Golden Bears

California has proven to be one of the most consistent programs I the nation since Jeff Tedford took over the job in 2002. If not for USC, they very well might have ended their lengthy 51-year Rose Bowl draught by now. With USC reloading, this may be the year for the golden Bears or maybe not. California was hit hard by the draft losing six starters to the NFL, and needs to find a quarterback. There are 15 starters coming back from a nine-win season, so there is quality depth for the Bears. Tedford has been a wizard when it has come to developing quarterbacks in the past, but Kevin Riley has yet to take the proper steps towards making Cal one of the nation's elite. He doesn't have much help in the passing game both as the receiving corps hasn't matured and lacks experience. What Tedford does have though, is arguably the most explosive running back in the country, in the form of Jahvid Best. Best averaged 8.8 yards per carry a season ago, despite dealing with injuries late in the season. He was so explosive, that he had seven rushes of at least 60 yards in 2008. If Cal does in fact overtake USC this season, best will be the catalyst. However if Riley can't take the next step forward, neither will Cal.

13.) Georgia Bulldogs

This time last season the Georgia Bulldogs were a lot higher on this list. In fact, they were the Preseason Number One in 2008. Well, that was not to be as Mark Richt's unit finished at a very respectable 10-3. Now Mathew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno are gone, leaving a number of talented players to fill the roles of the former stars. Richt has recruited well, and the offensive line is a much more experienced group than they were a year ago. The Bulldog's fortunes could rest on the arm of quarterback Joe Cox, who has had experience in the past as the starting quarterback. The defense should be strong once more, with defensive tackle Jeff Owens returning from a knee injury which sidelined him all of 2008. The Dawgs will open up the season at Oklahoma State, and will eventually have to endure the rigors of the SEC, which is no walk in the park. Still, Georgia has yet to finish outside of the Top-25 under Richt's watch; so nine wins shouldn't be a stretch for the Bulldogs.

14.) Oregon Ducks

Changeover is the theme in Oregon, as Mike Bellotti is no longer roaming the sideline in Eugene. Former offensive coordinator Chip Kelly was elevated to the position, as the Ducks look to capitalize on USC going through a change in passers (for what that's worth). Kelly's "read-option" offense has the pote ntial to be explosive, and with Jeremiah Masoli running the show, a third consecutive Top-10 finish in total offense is very possible. Masoli, who won the job amidst multiple injuries, rushed for 718 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2008, and looks to take the Ducks back to the top of the polls. What could hinder them from doing so is the fact that there are only 10 returning starters on this year's team, which is the lowest in the conference. Oregon also gets a tough test to open the season, as they travel to Boise, Idaho, to take on the 16th ranked Broncos on the blue turf. However when it comes to conference play, the Ducks will host both USC and Cal this season. Ten wins and a Rose Bowl bid could be very probable for the Ducks in 2009.

15.) Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Paul Johnson's first year at the helm at Georgia Tech was truly an impressive one. He brought his famed "triple option" offense to the ACC with fantastic results. The Yellow Jackets put up ten wins in 2008, and 17 starters back on both sides of the ball, including ACC Offensive Player of the Year Jonathan Dwyer and dual-threat quarterback Josh Nesbitt. Nesbitt suffered a balky shoulder towards the end of the previous season but has looked great thus far in camp. Besides he's just as dangerous a threat on the ground as any of the other four running backs that Johnson has in his arsenal. One thing that Johnson must address however is the defensive line, which lost all four starters from a very stellar unit. If they can fill the holes left on that defensive front, we could be looking at a team that is primed to join the ranks of the nation's elite.

16.) Boise State Broncos

If not for a 17-16 loss at the hands of TCU, the Boise State Broncos would have been joined Utah as the only undefeated team in the nation. With that performance aside, the broncos averaged 49 points per game, and did so with a freshman quarterback and 11 different starting combinations on the offensive line. The experience gained by Kellen Moore coupled with continuity up front should make Boise once again one of the most prominent offenses in the country. What could stifle them though is the fact that they only have one returning starter on defense to start the season. That shouldn't be too big of a concern, for the Broncos usually just outscore all their opponents anyway. With that said, we'll know where they stand after their season-opening matchup with the 14th ranked Oregon Ducks on the blue turf in Boise.

17.) TCU Horned Frogs

Does anyone find it odd that there are there are three Mountain West Conference teams ranked in the Preseason Top-25? The winner of this conference has finished 16th or higher in the polls in each of the last 5 years, two of which they finished 2nd and 4th. Well it shouldn't come as a surprise that the first of these teams, TCU is occupying this spot. The Horned Frogs have been no stranger to the polls over the last 5 years, and look poised to be there once more. There is experience and efficiency at quarterback with Andy Dalton, and perennially one of the nastiest defenses in the nation. The Horned frogs haven't allowed more than 18.7 points and 330 yards per game in each of the last four seasons. What could hinder them though is that they only have 4 returning starters on that side of the ball, but one of them is defensive end Jerry Hughes who posted 15 sacks and 6 forced fumbles in 2008. They also get two solid no conference games to start the season, opening up at Virginia before facing Clemson in Week 3. Look for TCU to win their first MWC Championship since 2005.

18.) Utah Utes

After finishing the season as the only undefeated team in the nation, it was understandable as to why the Utah Utes had such a gripe with the BCS. They finished ranked 2nd in the nation, after overwhelming the powerful Alabama Crimson Tide in the Sugar Bowl. However with great success apparently comes great departures, as Utah must replace both coordinators, their best offensive player (quarterback Brian Johnson), best defensive player (defensive end Paul Kruger), and the best combo kicker in the nation (Louie Sakoda). While they may not be BCS-caliber, they still have the potential of making headway, as they have three tough road games at Oregon, TCU, and BYU, which will go a long way in determining where they will be at the end of the season.

19.) Florida State Seminoles

With a cheating scandal hanging over their heads which could possibly cost Bobby Bowden to vacate a number of wins from a few seasons ago, their was one good thing to come out of 2008 for the Seminoles; they found a quarterback. Ponder proved to be an outstanding athlete that took to playing the position well last season, but Florida State will now need him to take the next step if they want to get back to the days of dominance in the 90's. Bowden wants to run the ball, and it looks like this season he just may have the offensive line to do it. The defense looks to be up to the school's lofty standards again, but the special teams unit leaves a lot to be desired. The Seminoles open the season up against Miami at home, and have tough road games against both North Carolina and Florida to close out the season. With all that said, 2009 is all about Ponder, and whether or not he can take this team to the next level, because if he can't, we could be looking at the end of an era in Tallahassee.

20.) North Carolina Tar Heels

With the ACC throne figuratively vacant at the moment, the North Carolina Tar Heels could be the team that vacates that position. Butch Davis has quietly built a monster, which very well could explode this season. The defense returns 9 starters, four of which comprise a defensive line that has the potential to be dominant. The Tar Heels are solid at quarterback with T.J. Yates, but must find a way to replace arguably the most explosive receiving corps in the conference, which featured first round pick Hakeem Nicks and Brandon Tate. The backfield could be explosive though. The only other real possible obstacle for North Carolina is ironically the health of Yates, who missed time last season with a broken ankle, and even suffered a thumb injury catching a Frisbee in the spring. Look for the Tar Heels to improve on their previous 8-5 campaign, but don't be surprised if Davis and company are still just one year away.

21.) Iowa Hawkeyes

After being a surprise contender in the Big Ten last season, Kirk Ferentz and his Hawkeye's must find a way to replace all the things that made them great last year. They must find a replacement for rugged running back Shonn Greene, who rushed for 1,850 yards and 20 touchdowns to lead the conference. They must also find replacements for both the interiors of the offensive and defensive lines. The defense does return 8 starters, and if they can muster the type of performance they did a season before where they held the opposition to just 13.0 points per game, then Ferentz could really have something brewing. What he absolutely needs more than anything is for quarterback Ricky Stanzi to take the next step forward, after the first-time starter had an impressive first season at the helm. Stanzi was key in IowaâEUR(TM)s upset of undefeated Penn State as he engineered the game-winning drive. How he handles more of the load this season will go a long way in determining Iowa's success in 2009.

22.) Nebraska Cornhuskers

The rebuilding process that second-year Head Coach Bo Pelini is amidst in Nebraska is proving to be a tedious one, but after an 8-4 regular season, the Huskers pulled a nice upset of Clemson in the Gator Bowl to build some momentum going into 2009. The talks of a revival should simmer down a bit, or at least until Nebraska makes it out of the first month of the season, which features games at 7th ranked Virginia Tech and Missouri. Winning the Big 12 North however is very possible for the Huskers; especially with Missouri likely taking a step back this season. Pelini will have to coax steady play out of junior quarterback Zac Lee, who is taking over for the productive Joe Ganz. Remember, Nebraska has played in only one Big 12 Championship Game in the last 10 years.

23.) Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The Irish were 7-6 a season ago, and won their first bowl game in what seems like ages. Things are definitely looking up for Notre Dame in 2009, and their ranking in this very poll is evidence of that. They may not be contenders for the BCS Title, but the Fighting Irish definitely look like they can win ten games this season. First and foremost Jimmy Clausen and the offense look like they finally have experience to put up huge numbers. Charlie Weis has the kind of depth at receiver and running back that he hasn't had since his first season with the Irish. The defense has been making strides too, as they could field possibly one of the best secondaries in the nation. However, there are question marks across both the offensive and defensive lines, where experience is sorely lacking. The kicking games are suspect as well. The overriding factor though may be the schedule; for the Irish face all of their tough opponents at home, and with the exception of USC, they're all very beatable.

24.) BYU Cougars

Last season, BYU reached as high as 10th in the polls before falling to the bottom of the Top-25 after losses to both TCU and Utah. For all the boasting that they were a Top-25 caliber team, they were a combined 49 points worse than their two superior conference counterparts. Fortunately, they have just about all of their explosive offense back intact; quarterback Max Hall, tight end Dennis Pitta, and running back Harvey Unga, who will be responsible for lighting up score boards this fall. This year they get both Utah and TCU at home, as well as Florida State, which could cement the Cougars into the Top-25 this season, and possibly give them a different destination come bowl season aside from the Las Vegas Bowl. They will however, get a test of epic proportions to start the season as they take on 3rd ranked Oklahoma on a neutral field in Arlington, Texas.

25.) Oregon State Beavers

After pulling the upset of season in knocking off number-one ranked USC, the Oregon State Beavers fell one game short of their first Pac Ten Title since 2000. In 2009 for the Beavers to contend, they will have to rely on their offense, and the game-breaking talents of twin brothers Jaquizz and James Rodgers. These two tailbacks are electrifying, and are the prime reason why they were able to upset the Trojans last year. There is however a bit of a quarterback controversy brewing in Corvallis as Sean Canfield and Lyle Moevao battle it out. The offensive line will be revamped, but the real questions are on defense, where there are only three returning starters. Rebuilding a defense tends to lead to trouble, and the Beavers must replace their entire secondary. There will also be three new defensive lineman on the front as well, so the defense could be a major detriment for the beavers in 2009.

Alabama review 2010

Really you not can complain Alabama Crimson Tide of this year. They rolled on his way to a perfect season 14 - 0. Waltzed on the Southeastern Conference with a serious challenge game. They seem to be in control over and won the Championship 13th in football school with relative ease. In any way, shape or form can you not declare this season a success. Even for a program like storied as Alabama, there was a first in the football field. Sophomore running back Mark Ingram became the first school ever winner of the Heisman Trophy in the nearest 75 years of history of the award voting. It is quite an achievement for the young, and in his second year he will get return next season as Alabama tries to defend his title. Ingram will also attempt to become the second person in college football history to win two trophies of Heisman, joining Archie Griffin, who accomplished the feat in the mid-1970s. Griffin also made at a time when freshmen were ineligible to compete and win the prize of students were unheard. This makes the achievements of even more impressive Ingram. Statistically, Ingram numbers were not as good as finalist for Toby Gerhart of Stanford, but Ingram had a deeper impact on the season playing for the winners.

Is the real question of the departure of Alabama in 2010 how to defend your title? Obviously, the return of a player like Ingram is a key factor, but should replace Greg McElroy quarterback. McElroy did not huge numbers in the position, but was a force that always maintained his composure steadying and not make mistakes. I knew I had Ingram behind to generate offense and defense dynamic Alabama held opponents down. This means that McElroy could work without much fear. A faithful and talented wide receiver Julio Jones also helped matters. McElroy will now graduate and Jones was probably as a participant early in the 2010 NFL draft by what those are key offensive player to replace to Alabama.Defensive Tackle Terrance Cody, who was the heart and soul of Alabama defense shall his fierce pass yards rushing skills for NFL así.No must to be undervalued, but losing senior kicker Leigh Tiffin, whow as close automatically, is not a positive.

Here is the plan. To play at the Southeastern Conference, it is never easy. Opponents as Florida, LSU and Tennessee is always ready to beat the tide. In fact, Tennessee, who did not have a stellar record in 2009, came closest to beat in Alabama. If no is so two blocked field goal by Terrance Cody, including once expired, the tide would have been its close 12-10 win over the voluntarios.Afortunadamente, Alabama has one of the best recruitment agencies in the country in coach Nick Saban. Saban has developed this computer at this time, so the top notch recruits are already in place and ready to replace stars departure.

Why is Alabama called the Crimson Tide?

Until the year 1906, the University of Alabama sports team was called "varsity" or "White Crimson", referring to the colors of the school; then in 1906, Hugh Roberts uses the phrase "Crimson Tide" when he was describing a game against Auburn Birmingham played in red mud. Auburn was favored to win, but Alabama played a great game, and the beginning of its name. However, was editor of former sports news from Birmingham, Zipp Newman, who was responsible for popularizing the name.

When you think "tide", think of any body of water or the sea. I don't really think of it as a name of a college athletic teams. In addition, your pet is an elephant. how came about that now are known as Alabama Crimson Tide.?

Of the tide

Newspaper accounts from 1900 which refers to the team of the University of Alabama, as the "varsity" or the "white Crimson", a nod to the colours of the escuela.después time, Alabama football principles referred to them as "Thin red line".This was a nickname that stuck until 1906.

The arrival of the tide

In the Bowl of 1907 iron, Alabama faced Auburn in Birmingham.Este game is also notable as the last contest between the two schools until 1948, when resumed the Iron Bowl.

This game has been played in a sea of red mud and Auburn was heavily favored to win; however "Thin red line" apparently played a good game, and kept the game to tie 6-6.Tras reporting about the game, Hugh Roberts, the former sports age of Birmingham Herald editor, uses the phrase "Crimson Tide" to describe the equipo.Y since then, the name.

It is also noted that although Hugh Roberts is credited with coining the phrase was Zipp Newman (former sports for the Birmingham News editor), among many other writers, who popularized the name when referring to the computer.

SEC football - the Iron Bowl embodies IT!

Southeastern Conference (SEC) soccer is the best college football in United States for many reasons. However, in the heart of all the football rivalries are incredible. Undoubtedly greater SEC football rivalry is the Interstate vs Alabama Auburn rivalry.

The State of Alabama, you are a fan of Auburn University or the University of Alabama fan.You may choose a serious topic lados.Neutralidad is not an option.

Over the years, college football has evolved into an important part of Alabama Alabama.Nativos life are understandably proud of their heritage rich College football. I think that "Bear Bryant," Bo Jackson, Joe Namath and many others.

But there is a day of the year when everybody in Alabama focuses on one soccer game. This game is the annual Auburn Alabama vs "Iron Bowl". Friends and family can be divided - at least for the day you play the Iron Bowl.

The Iron Bowl is probably the largest rivalry in all of college football game universitario.Una victory in this game is not just another check in the win column.Often plays an important role in deciding who won the Western Division of the SEC and goes to SEC.Una Championship game victory in this game also has enough weight to transform a bad season in a good;or vice versa.

In fact, losing four straight Iron Bowls probably was the final cost to Alabama coach Mike Shula his job after the 2006 season.Shula was the only coach Crimson Tide some time has lost four straight Iron Bowls.

In 2006, Alabama carries iron Bowl series record 38-32-1. embargo, Auburn has won each of the last five Iron Bowls.El game is always the last game of the regular season for each computer.

The 2007 Iron Bowl will play November 24, 2007 at the stadium of Hare Jordan Auburn.Sin doubt Center Nick Saban coach new concentrated great amount of energy to win that game.

Nick Saban - a great College that can bring Alabama toward greatness Football coach

Nick Saban recently became the University of Alabama football coach by signing the richer than ever contract awarded to a college football coach.

His 8-year, with the Crimson Tide $ 32 million contract has a base salary of $225,000 which will be supplemented by a fee of $3,275 personal services 3,975 million dollars per year. College supporters are flooded with money to the winners, who believe that you can place your computer at the top.

Saban treatment does not include a purchase clause if leaving, but cover public appearances in 15 year (for students, and booster clubs) that are not related terms.

The contract also have incentives that could generate another $650,000 for success in the field and academic with his players. One biggie is $200,000 if he arrives to the BCS Championship game and intensifies to $400,000 if WINS Alabama.

Saban also gets a number field, two cars, a box of luxury at Bryant-Denny Stadium Club and up to 25 hours of annual flight for travel in a non-commercial drawing staff members.

Ah, it is good that today Nick Saban in Alabama.Ahora should win and win big, something that has been able to make another college coaching positions.

Single year as coach in Toledo took the 6-5-9-2 Rockets and co-championship of the Mid-American Conference.

Saban, then went to the State of Michigan and in five seasons converted the Spartans of late season mediocre, continuous failure season 9-2, which included victories over Paris, Michigan, Ohio and Penn State, before the resigned in 1999.

A season before, MSU then hit No. 1 had ranked Ohio State 28-24 at Ohio Stadium and routed highly ranked Notre Dame before folding later in the season.

If Big 10 was not sufficiently hard, next stop to Saban was another five seasons with Southeastern Conference even tougher, LSU Tigers antics.

Had achieved a mark of 10-3 and a sophomore SEC Championship and topped things with a record 13-1 in its fourth season (2003) which won the Tigers a second SEC with Saban, as well as the title of the BCS National Championship of a 21-14 on the Oklahoma Sooners win.

After two average years trying to get the Miami Dolphins NFL gait, ceased to become new hope Alabama.Saban was able to build a defense with the Dolphins, but never got the offense goes, experiencing their first record as head coach.

Saban family has connections football. his cousin Lou Saban was an All-Big Ten at Indiana University on two occasions and was later the Buffalo Bills NFL, Denver Broncos head coach and the New England Patriots.

Saban played as a defensive back Don James when he coached at the State University of Kent.James also trained great NFL Jack Lambert and led Golden Flashes (may be true) to their unique Mid-American Conference title in 1972.

Saban, James was the winner.James was the coach of 18 seasons at the University of Washington.Él twice was named coach of the year (1984-1991) of the National University, guided by Washington for the Championship in 1991, took the Huskies 6 Rose Bowls (4 winner), won the Orange Bowl in 1985, had a record of 10-5 bowl game and won 22 straight between 1990 and 1992 games.

James was inducted into the Hall of Fame college in 1997;Saban will probably be inducted in the Hall of Fame sometime in the future.

Here is what he said about James Saban: "Don James was my college at Kent State coach.""I suppose that had as much of an impact on me as no one in terms of organization, quality of work, (and) being the best that puede.Es person I got (at) as head coach".

Saban was an Assistant of postgraduate and defensive, then Assistant to the Kent State University football team.

I have distant connections to Saban and James.

I graduated from Michigan State in 1966 and saw two large football years of graduation.I remember the 1966 "Party of the century" among then no. 2 ranked the State of Michigan and no. 1 ranked Notre Dame that ended in a draw 10-10 when North Dame decided to settle for a draw, instead of going for victory.

There were 5 Americans throughout 1966 MSU team: fullback Bob Apisa, halfback Clinton Jones, defensive end Charles "Bubba" Smith, wide receiver Gene Washington and rover (linebacker) George Webster.

I remember a game in 1965 when Jim Grabowski Illinois and George Webster ran full of all-American running back one steam towards the other and flattened Webster Grabowski.Fue one of the greatest tackles never went testigo.Grobowski came out of the work for the NFL Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.

MSU football then turned to crap until you Nick Saban arrived and returned to the Spartans to the prominencia.Fue a long drought which lasted from 1967 to 1999.

I moved to Washington State in 1973 and continued the Huskies at the University of Washington - and Don James closer I did Michigan State during those years. here in Washington Don James is affectionately known as the "Dawgfather" and treated with great respect was Don Corleone in the Godfather movie.

You won't find a better coach College football or person that Don James always tries honesty, integrity and doing the right thing.

My expectation is that Nick Saban will bring Alabama football to the place that you corresponde. He been a fan of Crimson Tide from day one "Joe Willie" Namath walked on the campus of Alabama.

I am also fired for the football season to start as State of Michigan has a new head coach, a boy named Mark Dantonio is serious defense and instill discipline and MSU needs attitudinal type winners.

Days of country club atmosphere run on State Michigan.jugadores get it or get desaparecidos. No will accept Dantonio losing and none will be Saban.Mira sec, here comes Nick Saban.

Catfish and Alabama football games!

Divided by the cost of a lazy afternoon on the Tennessee River waiting for catfish sting or listening to the University of Alabama football games really can play until the head of a boy from the South. Pain-relieving mental conflict, I decided to do both at the same time.

Although it is not necessary to have a boat that pass the hours, I'd rather be at the Centre of Rio share a good fishing spot with the pescadores.Mientras fellow I like to boast about the fish that I've caught, I don't want anyone knowing exactly where I caught them.

My boat is equipped with a pair of elements not usually found in normal 16 foot flat-bottomed fishing vessels. After years of contemplation "must have" things, I have decided as follows:

Gotta have a radio.Podría bring a laptop, but it would be my fate to throw it away. A radio is cheaper; If it is powered by a handful of batteries or connected to power the ship.

For a time, entertained the idea of a television covered by a CAP to protect yourself from the Sun, rain or buzzed over the lake or river water spray.WB this idea before I discovered how much cost satélite.Se TV connections settled on the radio.

Gotta know what is fishing for if you are going to have a relaxing afternoon of fishing and football. If you're after for small fish, then, will probably be busy most of the afternoon they take off the hook and get more bait. This activity can distract the emotion on the radio.

Fish for large catfish and almost is insured that will have a pleasant evening of college football. Putting more bait on the hook after a pan fish size has bitten in it, you can lose a great game of their favorite team.

Fish for large catfish! Cebo use which is the normal way of large fish does not give a second thought.Large catfish not biting very often, so do not be forced to take valuable time far from the roar of the crowd on his radio to fight in the boat.

Gotta have a refrigerator, but not filled with alcohol.I've never been one to drink while passing around a lake or a river in a ship of pesca. No takes a great loss of concentration end floating on the surface or sinking at the bottom of the River as a doughnut lead.

My refrigerator is stocked with bottled water, sodas, Hamburger from Burger, mustard, diced onion and catsup.Hamburger buns are located in one of the buckets bow along with plates of paper, coffee and life jackets.

Burgers should be premodelados hamburger, because it is not really health to do so in the boat. For the moment that is starving your hands probably have smell fishy, which has a tendency to leave a beef burgers strange smell.

Gotta have a portátil.Tengo propane BBQ Grill a stowed away in the live well of the barco.Dado only, I am fishing for big fish that does not fit on the well, use the space for other things.

There removable plate is installed on my boat, just above the bow deck, fat thus burgers, steak, or chops that Cook not plunge into the carpet on the deck.

Gotta have normal fishing gear; Rod reel, hooks and platinas.Debe have some bait on the ship where the game is boring and that you would really like to catch a pez.puede do it the easy way and stay home and catch the game on television, but would not be nearly as much fun.

College Football week fall teams more summary unbeaten 7-3-7 of top 25 teams are Upset

The college football world was turned upside down this week as 7 Top 25 teams were upset, including No. 1-ranked Ohio State, and 3 of the 7 saw their unbeaten seasons -and national championship dreams - all but vanish before their eyes.

Throw out almost everything you thought you knew for sure. The good old boys from the south have choked on their chewing tobacco. The voters will now be embarrassed to put their undeserving, favorite team on top of the football polls. It is a new order of virtual parity at the top in college football.

The best realization of this is that it is impossible to just pencil in Alabama, Florida or Ohio State as the No. 1 team.

South Carolina knocked off then No. 1 Alabama last week, and this week the Wisconsin Badgers hosted No. 1 Ohio State and gave Ohio State a most unfriendly 31-18 whipping while completely dominating the Buckeyes, who came in with their privileged reputation and a 6-0 record.

Ohio State was ranked 6th nationally in scoring offense, and 6th in scoring defense. Someone forgot to tell Wisconsin's players, who could give a flip about the Buckeyes stats. Wisconsin would rather smash you in the mouth, and they did.

The Badgers led 21-3 at the half, and the Buckeyes were wondering if they shouldn't get on the bus home at halftime. Ohio State, favored by 4 on the road, failed to cover by 18 points. The defeat was so bad that the Buckeyes dropped to 11th in the weekly AP Poll.

Earlier in the season, then No. 1 Alabama put a 31-6 thrashing on the Florida Gators, who won the national championship two years ago and four years ago.

All bets are off now - the national championship race is wide open, and apparently getting wider by the week.

No. 5-ranked Nebraska fared no better. The Cornhuskers (5-0), who hosted Texas, are sorry they ever showed up. The Longhorns, who had previously lost to UCLA and Oklahoma, led 17-3 at the half and won, 20-13.

The fact that Nebraska was ranked 9th in scoring offense nationally, 7th in total offense, 4th in scoring defense and 12th in total defense, did not mean squat. Cornhusker coach Bo Pelini can obsess over those stats all he wants, it doesn't matter, Nebraska, favored by 10, failed to cover by 18, exactly like Ohio State.

Nevada was the third unbeaten team to fall. The 19th-ranked Wolf Pack brought their perfect 6-0 mark to Hawaii, the land of pineapples and passes. The Warriors shut down Nevada's 7th-ranked scoring offense (43 points per game) while winning, 27-21, after leading 17-zip at the half.

Hawaii also has a high-scoring offense, averaging 39 a game. The Warriors (now 5-2) had more total offensive yards and passing yards. Hawaii leads the nation in passing offense.

The loss was Nevada's 6th straight at Hawaii. There is, of course, no truth to the rumor that Warrior players throw pineapples as well as passes, they just have a lot of very big, talented Samoan athletes on the island.

Now there are only 10 major schools that are unbeaten going into the 8th weekend of the season - TCU, Auburn, LSU and Michigan State all are 7-0, and Oregon, Boise State, Oklahoma, Utah, Oklahoma State and Missouri are all 6-0.

Besides Ohio State, Nebraska and Nevada, 4 other ranked teams lost - South Carolina, Florida, Air Force and Oregon State.

The South Carolina Gamecocks, who had just upset Alabama to rise to 10th in the AP Poll, led unranked Kentucky 28-10 at the half, but were outscored 21-zip by the Wildcats in the second half as Kentucky held on to upend the Gamecocks, 31-28.

South Carolina just did not play the second half, and failed to finish off its opponent.

Florida, ranked 22nd, hosted Mississippi State, rated 33rd by Sagarin, and found itself on the short end of a 10-7 stick. The Gators offense has just collapsed; two weeks ago they only scored 6 on Alabama, and now they have just dropped out of the Top 25 with a 4-3 record following consecutive losses to Alabama, LSU and Mississippi State.

The Mississippi State loss meant that Florida coach Urban Meyer suffered 3 consecutive losses for the first time in his coaching career. Apparently, when there is no Tim Tebow, there is suddenly no Florida. That's tough luck, for Florida, not Mississippi State.

Air Force, which debuted in the Top 25 last week at 23rd, took a flying leap back out of the poll this week after being beaten by unranked San Diego State, 27-25. The Aztecs, who led 10-6 at the half, made it official with the final score. The Air Force Falcons will have to regroup for some strategy.

The seventh team to miss victory this week was the 24th-ranked Oregon State Beavers, who were beginning to look for real. The Beavers paid a visit to the up-again, down-again Washington Huskies. They had won 6 in a row against Washington, and had won 7 of their past 9 Pac-10 road games.

That said, the Huskies have a real headliner in Jake Locker, who would be winning more games if his receivers would stop dropping passes, and his defensive teammates would start playing defense.

Locker threw a career-high 5 touchdown passes, including 2 to Jermaine Kearse in a double-overtime game, and Oregon State's 2-point conversion attempt for a win in the 2nd overtime period fell incomplete as the Huskies beat the Beavers 35-34.

Washington needed a defensive stop at a critical moment and finally got one when the conversion pass to Joe Halahuni went through his hands as he was hit by linebacker Cort Dennison.

Locker was 21-of-35 passing (60%) for 286 yards and the 5 TD strikes. Locker also picked up 60 yards on 12 carries (5.0 ypc), and Chris Polk added another 105 yards. Kearse had 9 catches for 146 yards and his school-record 4 touchdowns came on 16, 45, 17 and 21-yard passes.

Both Oregon State and Washington are now 3-3 on the season.

Eight other Top 25 teams had great wins to keep moving onward and upward.

They included really good road wins by 3rd-ranked Boise State over San Jose State 48-zip, 11th-ranked Utah over Wyoming 30-6, 20th-ranked Oklahoma State over Texas Tech 34-17, and 21st-ranked Missouri over Texas A&M 30-9.

Great home victories included 7th-ranked Auburn outlasting 12th-ranked Arkansas, 65-43, in the game of the week that featured offense and no defense, 4th-ranked TCU over BYU 31-3, 6th-ranked Oklahoma over Iowa State 52-zip, and 13th-ranked Michigan State over Illinois 26-6.

In a side note, Auburn barely led Arkansas 37-35 after the 3rd quarter, but the Tigers outscored the Razorbacks 28-8 on some miscues in the last quarter to go on and win 65-43. Imagine for a moment a SEC game with 108 total points scored. Whatever happened to that thing called defense?

Six other top-ranked teams had much less impressive victories. They included 8th-ranked Alabama's really lame win at home over 79th-ranked Mississippi 23-10, 9th-ranked LSU's pathetic triumph over 149th-ranked, AA McNeese State 32-10, and 15th-ranked Iowa's 38-28 victory over Michigan.

Also, 16th-ranked Florida State's narrow 24-19 effort hosting 110th-ranked Boston College, 17th-ranked Arizona's weak 24-7 win at Washington State, and 25th-ranked West Virginia's 20-6 escape against 100th-ranked South Florida.

No. 2-ranked Oregon and No. 15-ranked Stanford were idle this week.

Seven other unranked teams deserve a mention.

Here are 3 thumpings - Georgia shutting out Vanderbilt 43-zip, USC taking it to California 48-14, and Kansas State ripping Kansas 59-7 after leading 52-zip after 3 quarters.
