Why is Alabama called the Crimson Tide?


Until the year 1906, the sports team of the University of Alabama was named the "varsity" or "White Crimson", referring to the school colors; then in 1906, Hugh Roberts uses the phrase "Crimson Tide" when he was describing a game against Auburn Birmingham played in red mud. Auburn was favored to win, but Alabama played a great game, and the beginning of its name.
